Scales of justice the focus for two scholarship winners
Zoe Ewart and John Kable Scholarships awarded
Two students studying Law as part of their degrees have celebrated their scholarships at a combined presentation today at UTAS.
Emilie McDonnell, of Hobart, was awarded the Zoe Ewart Memorial Scholarship in Law for the second year of her Arts / Law degree.
The scholarship is valued at $3000 annually for up to four years.
As well as achieving excellent academic results, Emilie has supported many community activities, including volunteering in Fiji and St Vincent De Paul Outreach camps with refugees.
“I am passionate about equality; I believe everyone has the right to be heard and defended,” she said.
She has also organised activities to promote mental health and the Cancer Council Relay for Life.
Jacinta Hamilton, originally of the North-West, is the 16th recipient of the John Kable Memorial Scholarship which gives $4000 per year paid towards HECS for up to four years of study.
Jacinta attended Don Academy, Devonport Campus, and achieved fantastic results there. She is studying the second year of a combined Business/Law degree.
“I have an enthusiasm for law as it’s constantly thought-provoking and challenging,” she said.
“Lawyers serve the community by helping others resolve their disputes- these elements are reasons why I’d like to become a lawyer.”
Jacinta is also a Peer Leader at UTAS, helping other university students with their own studies.
